Microsoft have several support methods: Mainstream - Can request features, general updates, paid support, KB and hardware warranty claims. Extended - Security updates, paid support and KB information. Self Help - Basically the MS website will keep an archive of useful information, KB articles, webcasts, etc. Business software products are supported for at least 10 years. Business operating systems are supported for 5 years or 2 years after the sucessor product is released, whichever is longer. Extended support for 5 years or 2 years after successor product is released, again which is longest. Most software products will receive at least 10 years of online self-help support. Consumer products are generally supported for 5 years or 2 years after successor is released, whichever is longer. Extended support is not available. When a service pack is released, 1-2 years of support is provided for the previous release. Microsoft have provided a Custom Service Agreement (CSA) for large customers running
